Dear Parents/Guardians,
Over the coming weeks, pupils will participate in the Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) Programme as part of the SPHE curriculum. RSE is a mandatory component of the Primary School Curriculum and is taught in all primary schools. The programme supports children in developing an understanding of relationships, personal development, body awareness, safety and wellbeing in an age-appropriate manner.
Please find attached a letter outlining the content to be covered and the dates on which lessons will take place. We encourage you to take some time to read through the information and to discuss the topics with your child at home.
For clarity, these lessons are being taught in accordance with the current Primary School Curriculum and RSE programme. The school has not yet commenced implementation of the new Primary Curriculum Framework specifications for SPHE. Parents and guardians will be informed in advance when the school begins implementing any new curriculum specifications.
The attached information also includes links to the relevant teacher manuals and lesson content. We encourage parents and guardians to review these resources should they wish to learn more about the material being taught in their child’s class.
Should you have any questions about any aspect of the programme, your child’s class teacher will be more than happy to discuss the content with you and answer any questions you may have.
Thank you, as always, for your support and cooperation.
Kind regards,
Deirdre Murphy
Principal
